Ubuntu completely freezes when I click both mouse buttons at the same on an icon

I'm having a weird problem with the Ubuntu system. Ubuntu completely freezes when I accidentally pressed both mouse clicks on a Trash Can icon. System completely froze and I couldn't do anything, so I had to restart it with the help of the power button.

Has anyone experienced this? I know it's a weird issue. First time I did it on accident, but second time I did it on purpose just to test it out and it turned out it is produced when both - left - and - right - mouse buttons are clicked.

Is there any way I can restart my laptop safely if this ever happens again? I don't like turning it off on the power button. I have no idea if that still damages hardware like it did 10 years ago though.
